Scams Offering Cheap Packages of Forgotten Goods
Scammers on Facebook are advertising cheap pallets and mystery boxes claiming to contain undelivered goods from major retailers like Amazon. These scams redirect you to fraudulent websites designed to steal your payment information.
How this scam works
-
Deceptive Advertising: Scammers create ads and fake facebook pages claiming to offer pallets filled with items that were returned, undelivered, or forgotten by major retailers like Amazon.
-
Attractive Offers: These ads promise packages containing valuable products, such as electronics, clothing, or tools, all at a fraction of their actual price.
-
Lure of Surprise: The excitement of not knowing what's inside entices many buyers to make a purchase.
-
Prefabricated positive comments: Scammers use stolen Facebook accounts to post fake positive comments, creating a false sense of legitimacy for their fraudulent businesses. All accounts in comments from images are non czech accounts but comments are in czech language.
-
Fake Websites: Clicking on the ads redirects you to convincing but fraudulent websites that prompt you to enter your payment details.
-
No Delivery: After you make a purchase, no package ever arrives, leaving you empty-handed.
-
Payment Information Theft: In some cases, scammers may use your payment information to commit fraud or withdraw additional funds from your account.
Recognize Scams and Protect Yourself
-
Unrealistic Prices: If the price seems too good to be true, it likely is. Legitimate businesses rarely sell high-value items for such low prices.
-
Suspicious Websites: Check for a secure URL (https), look for spelling and grammar errors, and avoid sites that seem hastily made or full of pop-ups. Always investigate the seller before making a purchase, especially if you found the offer on social media.
-
Social Media Ads: Be cautious of offers seen on Facebook or other platforms, especially if the seller is unfamiliar. Review offers, look for warnings in the comments section, and verify the accounts that post positive comments with photos.
