Beware of Voldemort, a New Malware Threat
A new malware named Voldemort is targeting companies with a clever and dangerous strategy. Disguised as emails from tax offices, this malware aims to steal sensitive information and store it in Google Sheets, making it harder to detect.
What is Voldemort Malware?
Voldemort is a malicious software designed to steal sensitive information from your computer. It was discovered by experts at the company proofpoint . What makes it particularly sneaky is how it hides and operates. Once it infects your computer, Voldemort silently collects valuable data, like passwords and financial details and instead of using typical methods to send stolen data back to hackers, Voldemort cleverly uses Google Sheets, a tool many of us use daily for work or personal projects.
Scale of the Attack
Since August 5, 2024, hackers have sent over 20,000 emails with this malware. In one day alone, it hit 6,000 organizations. The attacks focus on businesses in insurance, aviation, transportation, and education and pretend to be from official tax offices. This means that businesses handling sensitive financial transactions are at higher risk, making it crucial for these organizations to bolster their security measures.

Why Should You Care?
Voldemort is dangerous because it can be difficult to spot. Traditional antivirus software might not recognize it immediately since it uses a trusted platform like Google Sheets to carry out its malicious activities.
